National-Level Female Wrestler Now Sells Garlands Outside A Temple In UP For A Living And Afford Her Diet

Her name is Astha Verma — a national-level wrestler who will find selling garlands outside a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi.

Losing her father, Ratan Verma early in the life, she was faced with a mountain of struggle with her two other siblings.

Astha told that her moved to their grandparent’s house and somehow got the three children educated.

In 2008 when she was a Class IX student, coach Gorakhnath Yadav of Durgacharan Inter College picked her to compete in wrestling when he had once saw her play kabbadi.

Astha says the following year she started training for and competed in wrestling matches, and actively took part in school sports events.

But her start was a bit rocky as Astha’s mother faced taunts of people who disapproved of her allowing her daughter to grapple with boys.
